I don't know why, but bottlenose dolphins were called "porpoises" for half my life. That is certainly what I knew them as in 1951. Dophins and porpoises are closely related, but the animals in these pictures are dophins. In the pelican picture, I think that's Mom and Bob in the background. ![]() It would be a decade before SeaWorld opened. In the meantime, that niche was filled by Marine Studios -- which did it fairly well for the time. (Early on, SeaWorld wasn't much more impressive.)
