LA to San Diego
I remember us getting off the highway and sitting near an oil field listening to the game. Dad was right; they still are talking about it. What do you think about when I say "Bobby Thompson"? Yeah, that game.
"Oil field"?!? Yes. We don't think of Los Angeles as an oil town, but it was. In 1930, California was producing about a quarter of the world's oil, and most of that was in the LA area. Even when we took the trip in 1951, there was more oil produced in California than Saudi Arabia; the Middle East's day came later.
