First look at Yellowstone National Park

"Old Faithful"
Yellowstone has a huge variety of landscapes, but the one that was most different to me -- and therefore most compelling -- was the geysers. And Old Faithful was the queen of the geysers. She probably still is, though I haven't been there since 1969.

The second most interesting thing was the animal life, especially the bears that would approach humans to beg for food. We quickly came to expect "bear jams" on the roads in the park. Those were traffic jams of stopped cars, because a pack of bears had blocked the road, and individuals were mounting each car in turn, hoping for a handout. No, not a hand out; that would have been really painful.
